Santander is bringing their cafe business to the UK. It’s been successful in countries like Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina & Chile.
So… What is it?
The successful concept is called ‘Work-Cafe’ and it provides a free co-working space with banking facilities for small businesses.
There are 50 of these Work-Cafes across Europe and South America and this week they will be opening their very first one in the UK.
Who Are These Work-Cafes For?
Santander will be trialing the first UK Work-Cafe in the commercial centre of Leeds, reviving a bank branch that has been closed since last year.
The goal of the Work-Cafes is to create a hub for small businesses to work together, inspire one another, and better connect.
In their own words they want to “nurture new business ideas and foster collaboration in a relaxed atmosphere”.
Santander will be partnering with Taylor St Baristas and will offer card holders a 30% discount on food and drinks.
The Work-Cafe will be open to customers of other banks too.
What Will The Work-Cafes Offer?
The main goal of the Work-Cafes is that they would foster collaboration among local small business owners.
This will allow them to work together on ideas and provide support to one another in a very practical way. The aim is to better connect business owners!
Customers will also be able to use the free co-working spaces, book meeting rooms and attend talks that help local business owners to grow their business.
There will also be staff to provide banking services for personal and business accounts.
Will The Work-Cafes Be A Success In The UK?
The signs look promising!
It’s proving to be a success across the world, and we must remember that the first Work-Cafe opening in Leeds is just a trial.
If the Leeds Work-Cafe is successful, we would expect to see many more Santander branches become Work-Cafes across the country.
After being part of different BNI groups ourselves, and sharing office buildings with other businesses we know the great opportunity that presents itself in hubs like this.
We’ve felt great rapport in these environments and cannot speak high enough of spaces that connect business owners.
It means that you can better connect with other like minded business owners and grow together.
You can learn about the different challenges of running a business and find out how to approach the hurdles you might be facing from other people who have experienced similar situations.
If Santander can create a sense of togetherness where business owners meet to connect and support one another in these spaces – we believe the Work-Cafes will be a great idea!
